No cancellation of the technical day after a one-year break
On September 14th and 15th this year, the 18th Technical Day of the UEM took place again in Wernigerode. Last year the event unfortunately had to be canceled due to Corona. We were all the more pleased about the great interest in a wealth of exciting lectures and networking opportunities. As in previous years, the HKK Hotel in Wernigerode served as the event location. The location of the city, as well as the charming old town with the castle in the background, have already proven themselves to speakers and participants in recent years. Last but not least, as the headquarters of VEM Low Voltage, Wernigerode offers proximity to VEM, which was also enjoyed by numerous guests with a factory tour at the end of this event.
The influence of Corona is still noticeable
Nevertheless, the influence of Corona was also noticeable this year. In order to be able to create a certain basic level of security, the 3G rule applied. Accordingly, all participants were only given access to the lecture hall if they could show proof that they had either been vaccinated, recovered or tested. This was accepted by all participants and some even praised it. The hygiene concept of the HKK Hotel Wernigerode was also implemented, so that masks were worn and distances were maintained wherever possible.
Varied program and positive feedback
The two days were filled with 15 lectures, which followed the main topic "Electric Motors and Drive Systems - Which paths drive technology is taking?" Both theory and practice were examined by speakers from research and development as well as the private sector. In addition to lectures on topics such as,
- Interpolation method for losses and efficiencies,
- Cost-efficient electrical machines in the high and low voltage range as well
- Individualized built-in motors for mechanical and plant engineering based on synchronous reluctance segment motors,
The UEM also contributed content to the Technical Day with two presentations. On the one hand, the implementation of the Industry 4.0 strategy at VEM was examined in more detail using a pilot project with the company Tectrion. On the other hand, a lecture was dedicated to the new high-voltage motor series, which has many advantages due to its modularity.
Of course, we would like to continue to respond to the wishes of the participants as best we can in the future. We are therefore very excited about the feedback and hope that the majority will take part in our survey. Basically, we have already received a lot of positive feedback. On the one hand, it was described as very refreshing that lectures could be given in front of a live audience again and personal conversations could be had. On the other hand, the somewhat difficult general conditions, which were primarily determined by Corona, were also emphasized, but this did not reduce the value of the event and the Technical Day was still considered a success.
We are of course all the more pleased that we have already received initial suggestions for topics for next year. Last but not least, this fact is a sign of the importance that the Technical Day has built up over the past 20 years. During this time we have welcomed more than 3,700 participants from more than 20 countries and more than 170 speakers.
