Wind power generators
We supply powerful asynchronous and synchronous generators for wind turbines with outputs up to 8 MW – for both onshore and offshore applications. The wind turbine generators are precisely tailored to individual requirements in close cooperation with the customer. The result is tailor-made solutions that meet the highest technical and economic standards. This results in, among other things, compact hybrid drives in which the generator and gearbox merge into a single efficient unit. Furthermore, the VEM portfolio also includes brake motors for azimuth and pitch drives, as well as low-voltage motors that operate reliably in the hydraulic, oil, and cooling systems of wind turbines – even under extreme environmental conditions.
Features
VEM's wind turbine generators are characterized by a number of advanced features. Of particular note is the use of permanent magnet synchronous generators with neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) permanent magnets, which require no slip ring or brush system and are therefore low-maintenance and highly available. The generators achieve efficiencies of over 98% – including fan losses – and are thus market leaders. Optimized magnetic circuit geometries and the use of state-of-the-art numerical simulation methods ensure maximum operational reliability, even under extreme speed dynamics. Insulation systems such as the proven VEMoDUR-VPI-155® also offer optimal protection for converter operation and ensure longevity under the most demanding conditions.
Applications
VEM wind power generators are used worldwide in onshore and offshore wind turbines. Whether as components of new systems or for retrofitting existing ones – VEM offers flexibly integrated solutions. VEM generators are also used in hybrid drives, where the generator and gearbox are combined into a compact unit.
Our range of services
The power spectrum of VEM wind turbine generators ranges from 1.5 MW to 8 MW at voltages from 690 V to over 11,000 V. Asynchronous generators with slip-ring or squirrel-cage rotors, electrically excited synchronous generators, and permanent magnet synchronous generators in medium-speed and high-speed versions are offered. The generators are manufactured and tested according to international standards such as IEC EN 60034 and also comply with common certifications such as TÜV, DNV-GL, and UL/CSA. They are available in various designs and protection classes, adapted to the respective nacelle design and site conditions – including special solutions for offshore applications with corrosion-resistant components and extended temperature ranges.
