Features
VEM hydropower generators are characterized by their high reliability, durability, and maximum energy efficiency. The generators are manufactured in closed or open designs, with air or water cooling, and for vertical or horizontal shaft arrangements. The proven VEMoDUR-VPI® insulation system ensures excellent thermal and electrical resilience, even under extreme environmental conditions. The machines are designed for continuous operation and optimized for high efficiency.
Applications
VEM hydropower generators are used in a wide variety of plants worldwide – from small river power plants to medium-sized storage facilities and large pumped-storage power plants. We also offer flexible solutions with customized sizes, cooling concepts, and connection configurations for highly specialized requirements – such as those with highly fluctuating water volumes or limited installation space.
Our Performance Range
Water-cooled motors offer an energy-saving and environmentally friendly solution for various applications. These motors are available in various sizes, with models up to size 280 made of gray cast iron with cast-in cooling tubes, and models from size 315 onwards featuring double-walled welded steel constructions. The motor features, including terminal boxes, end shields, winding insulation, protection class, and color scheme, correspond to the standard version.
A key advantage of water cooling is the reduction in noise emissions compared to surface-cooled three-phase motors of the same power and size. The motor's waste heat is efficiently dissipated without affecting the environment. The cooling principle enables a compact motor design, which enables higher performance and optimal vibration damping. Overall, water-cooled motors offer a reliable, powerful, and quiet solution for various industrial applications.
