A static exciter is designed to supply a synchronous motor with the required excitation power and, by controlling the excitation current, regulating the reactive power consumption of the motor.
The exciter consists of the following main components:
- Exciter transformer
- Exciter converter
- Common and closed-loop control equipment
- Overvoltage protective equipment and rotor starting and protective resistors
The components are preassembled in cubicle-type enclosures. The number of enclosures depends on the power rating and the desired design (e.g. redundant rectifiers).
